To build public awareness around McMillan Park, i am proposing a visual art competition for works inspired by the park, its history and significance, in any medium. In addition to category winners, selected entries would be published in a book to augment the scant documentary record of this unique place in the middle of our urban environment. Art, architectural, engineering, historical preservation and planning organizations will be invited to co-sponsor this with Our McMillan, the park's advocacy group.

CALL FOR SINGERS/PERFORMERS:

I received a call for artists for a gig at the phillips collection - just one rehearsal prior the 3rd if at all.

The character is based on the Migration Series by Jacob Lawrence. The role is that of a tenant farmer. No script per se, but it will involve some prior research into work songs, union songs and the like. It is mostly just play-acting, involving audience. This character is someone who can sing period work songs and also break out into union songs. The director, is looking for a Black female singer.

If you or anyone you know is interested, please contact:
Carmen C. Wong : ccw@banishedproductions.org

The gig is unpaid.

We received this message:

D.C. Creates!, Washington's public art program, is creating a master plan that will outline bold, exciting new directions for the program. One possibility is a focus on artworks that are engaged with environmental issues in the city, its watersheds and its environmental infrastructure.

Please join us for a "roundtable" discussion for city staff, community leaders and artists involved in environmental efforts. We will show examples of how artists are working with environmental issues, and we'd like to learn about what you do, what ideas you have, and who else you think we should talk to.

Roundtable Discussion
Columbia Heights Recreation Center
Wednesday, February 11
10:30 – 12:00
Parks Department
1480 Girard Street, NW
Suite 420
Washington, DC 20010

The Columbia Heights Recreation Center is 5 blocks from the Columbia Heights Metro station – upon exiting the station, walk 5 blocks south on 14th, turn right on Girard. The building will be on the left.

Parking is available on the street, but it is hard to come by. It is also available at the Parks Department main office at 3149 16th Street. This is a 6 block walk to the 14th Street building.

Bridget Stesney will be our host for this event.

We hope that you can join us for this meeting. Please let us know if you plan on attending. And, if you know of other people that you think should be part of the discussion, please forward this email along.

In case you missed it, there's a monthly Eco-Justice Cafe/Bazaar at UDC Firebird Inn with open-mic for local performers. The next one is Friday January 9 and every first Friday thereafter. If interested in appearing contact Joe Libertelli jlibertelli@udc.edu or to volunteer. We can also always use an extra body at our table.

hello all

I''ve yet to hash out any real ideas as to how we should proceed. We have so much we can do with creative arts; perhaps we should at least begin planning to meet either in person or this site (if in person, the weekends are best for me) but let us not be shy any of us can start a variety of ideas. So let's throw out some ideas, plans, and times ...be back with you soon.
