Profile Information

Occupation
glut food co-op
What is your motivation for joining this group?
Interest in building towards community independence -a participatory society.

I want to live resourcefully and support the general ecosystem's interconnection, from the insects to the trees and us.

I've been so happy since losing a job one year ago and (building, digging, and sleeping more) lived the realization that work isn't a job. Work is only intentional action. There's so much work to do. Jobs are dreadful, sure, but the good work can be a party, why not?! I wish more people had space to feel this and I am focused on the class and economic system design that isolates, segments us -harming our communities and psyche.
What skills or experience would you share? We need architects, artists, planners, scholars, farmers, web wizards, fundraisers, vintners, vegan chefs, grant writers, carpenters, beekeepers, scientists, dreamers, lobbyists - you get the idea ...

Boulevardier, I explore a lot and can share resources of location -unused lots, areas, foraging opportunities.

Cook.

A tree nerd, I would like to raise up fruit and nut trees.
Previous collective living experience?
co-housing, group house
What would you like to offer?
equipment, labor, materials, skill
What are your areas of interest?
alternative commerce, intentional community, recycling, urban farming
What level of commitment to an intentional community would you consider at this point?

It's not so much the land but the people who are willing to come together to plant the trees, take care of them, manage the harvest, distribution, etc.; in other words, a community group who will take it on as a project.

Thanks for the 411 on the Casey Trees jobs.

I like your idea of showing films at DCTV. Maybe we should transfer our movie night from Emergence to there and have like a running Sustainability Film Festival, once a month like now, or upped to once a week. Yes? All in favor say aye.

I'm so glad you joined. I resonate with your bright-eyed enthusiasm and sensible attitude to work. It's good to hear it from someone else. This is work i'm impelled to do; in an ideal world we would be funded and i would be paid. I don't know how much longer i can hold out on getting a, ugh, job.

Casey Trees has 200 fruit trees to find homes for. We're looking for a community that will accept them as an urban orchard project. See http://www.phillyorchards.org/. It would be great if in your boulevardiering you could identify not just the open space but the residents who would care for and benefit from the trees.

Hi Mikle, thanks for signing up. Feel free to customize your page, post questions, thoughts, articles, photos, videos, make friends, message privately, join or create groups. We look forward to your participation in anchoring our vision with your wonderful skill set as we seek to live more sustainably and equitably. We plan a wide range of programs next year and your input will be welcome. Please share your ideas, energy and passion.

We meet WEEKLY due to the enormity of the challenges and the urgency needed to address the issues that face us - Tuesdays 7 pm at Emergence Community Arts Collective, 733 Euclid Street NW, WDC 20001. We've been following a schedule something like this:
1st week - Food & Farming
2nd week - Transition
3rd week - Film
4th week - Planning & Networking
5th week when there's one - Special guest
but any can be trumped by urgent matters arising. For example, we are already thinking of devoting the first or second meeting in 2009 to building the infrastructure for an alternative local economy based on time banks and/or local currency.

Our final meeting for this year will be on Tuesday Dec 23, 6 pm at The Potter's House to celebrate our time together and resolve to accomplish even more in the New Year. Come by and meet the folks.

Let's together create a brave new world.
